We are pleased to announce the launch of our new iPhone optimised website. Simply point your browser to nue-media.com on your iPhone to see it in action! All of the content on our main website can be found on there: about Nuemedia, the services we offer, full design portfolio, our blog and even the video section.

This new site is actually just another WordPress theme (the CMS that powers this site) which is applied if an iPhone is detected. This means that all the blog posts and comments are synchronised seamlessly between the two sites. Again, Matt did all the design work and I the coding; it was a challenge as we’d never made one before! We are extremely pleased with how it turned out as it follows our branding perfectly and looks extremely slick.

To best view the site add Nuemedia to your homescreen by pressing the ‘+’ sign at the bottom.

If you have any questions then leave a comment below, if you are wanting an iPhone optimised version of your own website then please get in touch.

The outcome has been overwhelming and has brought up to 1000 hits a day – more than the previous version of Nuemedia. We have been featured on over 50 Gallery site as well as winning a Site of the day from thecssawards.com.

There are so many different galleries that it’s hard to know which ones to submit your site for inclusion. We decided to just hit as many as we could starting with the ones we considered the leaders in this field. (cssmania, thecssawards and creattica). You can get a full list of gallery sites from thecssgallerylist.com.

Here are our favourite CSS Gallery websites.

This post is a response to a recent blog article I read: http://bit.ly/dsJW94

I think I speak for all designers and developers when I say “good riddance”. I will now show any client that requests that their website works on IE6 that article. We recently had a client that insisted their site work perfectly on IE6. This required a lot of extra time and effort, all for a minority of users that must be computer illiterate not to have upgraded browsers already. From now on we will not be supporting IE6 unless specifically requested.

I do feel it all comes down to the target market the site is built for; some websites still have IE6 in the high teens in terms of user percentage. Abandoning that much of an audience, might be detrimental to a business. However, as designers, we are constantly trying to make a business look the best in their field in order for a customer to trust and choose them when purchasing their products or services. By coding for IE6 this is almost impossible as the competitor will most like have a more exciting, user friendly and up to date website. You wouldn’t go to war with stick and stones so why take on you competitors with a substandard website.

As a newly converted Mac user, I am glad I don’t have anything to do with IE on my personal MacBook. I highly recommend to all you out there to use Mozilla fire fox, in the word of Steve Jobs “It just works”. Also, Adobe have an awesome browser tester, Adobe BrowserLabs.

Since the launch of the new site we have been working on this little beauty. The iPhone site will have most of the content you can get off nue-media.com, including our services and full portfolio. This has been a great little side project and will hopefully help us reach a greater audience. If you need a mobile optimised website, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

At the end of last year Matt and I decided it was time to free ourselves from contract work and form our own web design company. This meant we needed a new portfolio, one that showcased our talents and one that tried to be better than anything we had seen before. As soon as Christmas was over we got to work. Two weeks later this site was ready and we launched.

The previous version of Nuemedia can be found here: v1.nue-media.com, which was also designed by Matt and coded by Me. It was received very well when it launched and through zero marketing still managed to achieve a pretty good number of page views per month. It was even featured in Web Designer Magazine.

If you’re interested in working with us or just want to pick our brains over something then send us a message, we’ll try to get back to everyone. Also, if you’re interested how some of the features on the site work then check out this post.

I remember when I started learning how to program I would scour the interwebs looking for new effects or techniques I had never seen before. When I found a site that had one of the these I would meticulously dissect all the code to understand how it worked and try to replicate it. I remember one of the first sites that blew me away was the original DHTML interface at 13thparallel (we’re talking years and years ago). Up until then I had no idea of the power and things you could with JavaScript.

I spent a long time learning JavaScript (as well as XHTML and CSS) but it soon became apparent that it had its limitations – the big one being data storage. Since JavaScript is client side you can’t store any information about the user. That is when I discovered PHP and MySQL and the same process of finding new things that could be done with them and learning how to do it was repeated.

My point with all of this is that the biggest learning tool for me was looking at existing websites and studying the code. It was a lot easier back then because there were no packers, or other compression tools so it was really easy to just look, read and replicate. The code for this site is packed and compressed to squeeze every last byte out but it doesn’t make it very user friendly.

Therefore in order to help those of you who are currently learning, or those simply interested in how things work around here, I am giving and open invitation to ask me how. If you want to know how the scrolling headers work, video section or even some of the server side code then leave a comment below. The areas with the most interest I’ll write posts with the scripts and a description of what’s going on.

Nice one, just got a new point a shoot and im stoked. Dark grey, titanium finish, 13mp, awesome picture quality, great features and beautiful design . I have been looking for a new camera and narrowed my choices down with the W300 at the top of my list. I went into Dixons to test a few out and was sold on the W300 but not on the price, £230 in store!. After looking around I found It for £180, and that was that, a done deal.

I’ve now got 2 cameras, the new Sony for everyday shots and nights out and the beast, my Canon 450D for the more creative shots. I been finding it more and more difficult to bring the Canon out with me, too worried it will get damaged due to excessive alcohol consumption and forgetfulness, so this little compact beauty should do the trick. Now all I need is the under water housing unit, I ordered it the same time as the camera but hasn’t arrived yet. Hopefully I will be able to get some sweet underwater scuba shots on the Thailand trip.

Here are some of the camera features:

13.6 MP Super HAD™ CCD

Carl Zeiss® 3X Optical Zoom Lens

2.7″ Clear Photo LCD Display

Anti-scratch Premium Titanium body

Face Detection

Smile Shutter

Super Steady Shot optical image stabilization

9-Point Auto Focus

BIONZ image processor
